Space

As a near future roleplay, the exploration of and expansion into space is an important element of the universe. At the same time the restrictions physics and reality place on technology, make space slow and generally uninteresting. To address this the realism rules are relaxed where it concerns space.

Assets used under the space technology rules cannot in anyway be used against Earth-based assets. Including Earth-facing satellites in orbit.

Generally any design can be used  for space vessels without needing specific approval for said design. As it is difficult to determine what would be realistic for a spacefaring civilization, when two vessels of the same category enter combat they are assumed to be of roughly equal strength. Regardless of individual differences between designs. Propulsion is currently restricted to 0.01% of the speed of light in line with the fastest propulsion available (Tesla Drives).

The Space system will be launched in five stages. Each of these stages come with access to new technology, larger numbers and in general an evolution in the space game. This is to reflect a natural evolution of capabilities and to avoid overwhelming the roleplay. We are currently in stage 1.

Stage 1

Access to fighters, corvettes, (light) frigates and tier 1 space stations/planetary bases is unlocked. The following restrictions apply.

  • An entity can have no more than twenty Corvettes or Light Frigates.
  • An entity can have no more than ten Frigates.
  • An entity can have no more than five tier 1 space stations/planetary bases.
  • Tier 1 space stations/planetary bases cannot hold more than 500 people.
  • Weapons of mass destruction in space are prohibited.

Stage 2

Access to Destroyers and Cruisers is unlocked.

  • An entity can have no more than fifty Corvettes or Light Frigates.
  • An entity cam have no more than twenty Frigates.
  • An entity can have no more than three Destroyers.
  • An entity can have no more than one Cruiser.
  • An entity can have no more than five tier 1 space stations/planetary bases.
  • Tier 1 space stations/planetary bases cannot hold more than 1,000 people.
  • Weapons of mass destruction in space are prohibited.

Stage 3

Relaxation of unit caps.

  • An entity cam have no more than fifty Frigates.
  • An entity can have no more than ten Destroyers.
  • An entity can have no more than five Cruisers.
  • An entity can have no more than ten tier 1 space stations/planetary bases.
  • Tier 1 space stations/planetary bases cannot hold more than 1,000 people.
  • Weapons of mass destruction in space are prohibited.

Stage 4

Access to Battleships and Tier 2 Space Stations/Colonies is unlocked.

  • An entity cam have no more than fifty Frigates.
  • An entity can have no more than ten Destroyers.

  • An entity can have no more than one Battleship.
  • An entity can have no more than ten tier 1 space stations/planetary bases.
  • An entity can have no more than one tier 2 space station/colony.
  • Tier 1 space stations/planetary bases cannot hold more than 2,000 people.
  • Weapons of mass destruction in space are prohibited.

Stage 5

Final stage of the Space system. Unit caps are removed, limited use of weapons of mass destruction is authorized.

  • Tier 1 space stations/planetary bases cannot hold more than 5,000 people.
  • Nuclear weapons may be freely used in space to space combat, any use of nuclear weapons against a target on a celestial body or a tier 2 space station/planetary base is subject to the same rules as on Earth.
