Jerusalem – To fulfill her electoral pledge to increase governmental cooperation with the Jewish, Muslim and Christian communities, President Ariel David will be meeting with religious leaders of all three groups to establish what their needs are and how the government can fulfill them.

Specific focus will be placed on the recent surge in religious violence, including the brutal attack on two 15 year old Arab-Muslim boys in Tel Aviv and the rape and murder of a 19 year old Jewish woman in Khan Jounis. Both incidents have led to a series of protests in cities that at times threatened to escalate into riots. The Federal Police Service has announced it will supervise local police services to guarantee objectivity and fair investigations so that justice is guaranteed. The Federal Police Service has also issued a general warning that for the time being members of religious groups should stay closer to their communities after dark. Police patrols have been increased in recent weeks but both the Federal Police Service and many local police departments still struggle with manpower shortages. Some Knesset members have even called for the Army to be called in to support police operations.

Other topics will include a new education push of the President’s administration and events to foster inter-group communication and collaboration.
