Helsinki – Her Royal Majesty Queen Kustavaa has announced a tour of the state, starting and ending in Helsinki. Having taken the crown after her father abdicated three years ago the Queen has enjoyed a large amount of public support. She has also promised to appear with each candidate for the Prime Ministry of Finland, stating “No matter who wins the election, we are all Finns in the end.” Her first stop after Helsinki will be Kustaaskaupunki, where she intends to give a speech encouraging all citizens to go out and vote.
With Prime Minister Isko Makkonen not able to run for reelection due to term limits the election this year is blown wide open. The polls show a four-way race between the two independents and the Centre Party and National Coalition Party candidates. Sticking to the Royal Rules set by the first King the Royal Family has refused to endorse a single candidate, as that would interfere with the Republican process.
In the Parliamentary elections it looks like another center coalition will form a government supporting whichever Prime Minister is elected. The far from center parties appear to be down in the polls by almost 50%. It looks like we can look forward to another moderate government over the next few years.
